You know it never ceases to amaze me how fast these actors are dropping like flies. First Heath Ledger, (Mary-Kate you got some 'splaining to do...) then George Carlin, now Bernie Mac?
As little TV as I watch, this guy was all over it, I mean I would hear the name Bernie Mac at least twice every hour. Especially on the FOX channel.
Bernie Mac died Saturday (August 9th 2008) of complications of pneumonia, according to a family member and his publicist.(1) He was hospitalized in Chicago for over a week with the lung infection.
The comedian's publicist Danica Smith stated earlier this week that his condition was "stable." Mac suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease, that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs. In 2005 he was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease.(2)
Bernie Mac started his comedy career age 8 doing a stand-up performance at a church dinner. By age 20 he was taking his performances to the Chicago clubs. In 1992 his first appearance in a film "Mo' Money" as a club doorman. In 2001 he performed in "Ocean"s Eleven" with actor George Clooney, where he played a part in helping pull off the biggest hest ever known, walking out with $150 million. (3)
That same year, Mac also landed a contract with FOX Networks starring in his own TV show: "The Bernie Mac show" being somewhat based upon his personal life. He becomes a custodian over his sisters 3 children after she enters rehab. The show lasted 5 seasons before FOX announced his shows cancellation in 2006. (4)
